How Does It Work?

There are two main methods of tuning modern diesel and gasoline engines , one is by chip tuning or remapping , this involves using a special interface to read out the program from the cars computer or ECU and then writing in a new program to increase performance.

The second method is to use an external plug in Tuning Box or as some people refer to them 'Piggyback ECU' , these units connect into the existing wiring of the vehicle generally using original manufacturers connectors , a control unit (Tuning Box) is then attached which can intercept the signals coming from the engines sensors to the cars ECU and alter them to allow the injectors or common rail to inject more fuel at certain times and increase turbo pressure to keep the air/fuel ratio correct.

The Spider® is connected to your engine using an original equipment harness which plugs into existing sensors on your car's engine. Signals between the ECU and the engine are adapted precisely thousands of times a second which allows us to boost the performance and torque of your engine without removing any of the protective features of the engine control unit.

Safety and reliability are not compromised, and the system can be removed at any time for example for your routine service, warranty work, or even to be transferred to another vehicle. Spider® can be interchanged between diesel or petrol engines without any reflash needed. The unit is fully loaded with firmware.

When first fitted to your engine, the unit is calibrated by pressing the C button on the touch panel. The unit then calls the calibration program which will calibrate the unit to your specific engine for a precise and accurate tuning solution.

The Spider® performance pack can also be adjusted between driving modes to reflect your driving style or mood. Adjustment is made by the external touch panel to change between ECO mode, Fast Road 1-5, and Racemode which is the highest power setting.

You will see some "tuningboxes" with printer style Sub-D connectors which are not dust and water resistant, but Spider® only use Automotive grade ECU style connectors. Fully sealed and lockable connectors ensure years of trouble free driving.

Should you later change vehicles or even change engine fuel type, the Spider® can be transferred over by just buying the required harness. We stock a full range of the Spider® harnesses and will be pleased to help you with any questions on transferring.

Further to this, Spider® has been on the market now for over 20 years with thousands of units sold each year throughout the world. The product is tried and tested which minimizes your risk when it comes to deciding which chiptuning solution to trust on your car.
